Educating Health Care Professionals, Businesses, and Schools on the needs of today’s GLBT community

SPC has developed a series of GLBT Diversity and Cultural Competency trainings targeted to businesses, schools, and health care professionals. If you would like more information or to schedule a training please call 209-338-0855 or email coordinator@stanpride.org.

Helping Hands is a cultural competency training program providing GLBT-specific health education to mental health providers and medical professionals.

We offer the following:

• Comprehensive Training for Mental Health Professionals, eligible for CEU Credits, 6 hour length
• Topic Specific trainings, 2 hour length
• Customized Training, you specify the length and topic

Our Successes

Our first training session was held in May 2007 in partnership with Sierra Vista Child & Family Services. Licensed MFTs and Social Workers were eligible to register for a day long training and received 6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Nearly 30 mental health professionals attended this training, the first of its kind ever to be held in Stanislaus County.

In Development

In the future we aim to offer this training to all healthcare professionals including phsycians, nurses, and anyone with direct patient contact.

With enough participation from the community we will establish an online referral database for healthcare professionals in the area. This is a service that is desperately needed.

Building Bridges is a diversity/sensitivity training program that provides GLBT-specific education to a variety of audiences. This training program provides a "GLBT 101" overview of issues and concerns and is suitable for business professionals, corporations, non-profit organizations, and students at the secondary and post-secondary levels.
